Colin Answers: Ask Colin responses

From: Cait
Question: Hey Colin!
Have you seen any Danny Kaye movies?
Hey Cait
Yes I have seen a lot of Danny Kaye movies. I was a big fan when I was younger. Recently I saw The Court Jester for the first time in years and found I'm still a fan.

Question: Have you seen Dan Patterson's new show 'Mock the Week' on the UK? It's half a political panel show and half quick fire improv. It's very popular here and the closest show to Whose Line I've seen since ( a step in the right direction!). Would you ever consider being a guest? Greg did it a few years back.
Alice
I would consider being a guest if asked. I will consider anything I have been asked. Go ahead...ask me something. I will consider it.
From: Roshan T.
Location: Perth, Australia
Question: Whose your favourite improv comedian? Other than yourself, of course.
Roshan
I've been fortunate enough to work with a lot of great improvisers on Whose Line and from my days at Second City, names you would not know. If forced, the guy I love to watch and to play with is Jim Sweeney. He is brilliant.
From: Katri

Question: Firstly: I love you :)
Secondly: My question for you.
I think all the questions that I wanna know about you are already asked and those I really wanna know, you won't answer, so I approach you with this... :)
If you could choose a drama role for you to play in a theater, what would that be? (I'd love to see you as Don Quijote or Willy Loman)
Katri
No question...Lady Macbeth.

Question: Hello Colin
I'm loving watching you in the UK WLIIA repeats being screened over here right now. It was so great to see you perform alongside Stephen Fry! I just wanted to know if you saw Stphen's recent Emmy winning documentary on The Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive? Tony Slattery also appears in this very moving programme.
best wishes
Westley.
Westley
Unfortunately I have not seen it, but since it involves two of my favorite people I will look for it.

Question: Um...hi...I doubt you'll reply to this so what the hell...if you do reply though I'll be over the moon. My question is that in several episodes of Who's Line there have been some minor injuries and mishaps such as Ryan breaking the glass with his head, Wayne and Brad both knocking over glasses and tables, you landing awkwardly on your battery pack and I was wondering whether there were any more serious show stopping incidents that never made it to the air? Thanks in advance if you reply.
Dalton
That was pretty much it. There was a time during a taping of the British Whose Line. We used to have a show in the afternoon, then one at night. In the first show I severely twisted my ankle and it ballooned to 3 times its normal size. Unfortunately it happened in the first game and I decided to be a trouper and not tell. then I spent the next5 hours trying to hide it from Dan ( who is a major panicker. In fact in the army he was Major Panicker) It all worked out, but that was the closest I ever came to missing a show.

Question: I just want to know how it feels to be the big "50". We share the same birthdate November 30, 1957! I had a wonderful surprise party given to me by my husband and children. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling fifty and fabulous darling!!!!!!
Julie
I too am feeling 50 and fabulous. I've been feeling that way since I was thirty and tremulous.

Question: I get the impression that you try very hard to make Ryan Styles crack up.Is this easy to do,and does he try this on you?
Steve
I don't think we go out of our way to break each other up, sometimes we just luck out. I am fortunate in that I don't find him amusing so I don't break.

Question: Hi Colin,You are truly one of the best in the business, and I admire your skills to entertain the world. My question is about your picture on your website, if you could only tell me abbout that watch you are wearing, it is beautiful and if you could only tell me where did you get it from. Many thanks and God bless you.

That watch was given to me by my wife 18 years ago. It's a Fossil with Batman and Robin on the face. It's my favorite possession.

Question: Colin, a while back my husband and I, along with a good friend of ours, rented a little movie called "The Jane White Show." Wow! I've been drunk twice in my life and never more so than after that little doozy--I literally stood up during the credits and made the announcement "I believe I must now get smashed." Just wanted to know if making the movie had the same effect on you. Oh, love you still, even after making an ass of myself in front of you after a show done in Iowa (the one where a man in the crowd suggested "Yugoslavakia" as the exotic location you and Brad had required).
Tracy
I was drunk during the filming. It really helps I find.

Question: Hey Colin. I've been a huge Whose Line fan since before your hair was really gray. My question is with so much humor in your life, what is the one thing (if anything) that you are passionate about and could make you emotional?

Question: Hiya Colin! I know everyone tells you how much they adore you and it must get old but....I TOTALLY ADORE YOU COLIN!!! I am 16 yrs old and I met you and Brad after your show in Lakeland in December and giving you my homemade goldifsh birthday cards was a dream come true :) My questions for you are do you and Brad keep most of the stuff your fans give you? What is your favorite gift one of your fans gave you(besides my awesome bday cards)? And does it make you feel good to know that you have people around the world that adore you: the amazingly funny, adorably balding Whose Line guy? By the way...Thank you for the laughs. You really are my hero :)
Tyler
Never feel bad about declaring your love for me. It makes the world a better place. Yes Brad and I keep the gifts especially the crisp 100 dollar bills. The nicest gift I ever got was a caricature of the cast in the style of the Simpsons.

Question: Hi Colin! I noticed that on Whose Line you mention the Rolling Stones in greatest hits (Hey you, get off McCloud. ..too funny!!!), or song titles a lot. The Rolling Stones are my favorite band, so I was wondering if you like them and what your favorite song is by them? Anywho, thanks for all of the laughs and you always cheer me up when I'm having a bad day on that show, so thank you for that. :)

Question: Firstly i would just like to say thanks for being on Whose Line is it Anyway, you and Ryan inspired me a lot, you truly made acting fun. I'm 13 and love acting in my school, i'm not in any acting groups but still love it a lot. I would love to be in the acting industry when i grow up, it is a very important year in my school as in Septemeber will be choosing subjects for my GCSE's. I'm not sure if i should take drama and think about it seriously, i was wondering what advice would you give me? You're an acting genius and i would like to take the oppertinity to thank-you for bringing me into the world of acting. Thanks a million.
Daniel
Make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. It can be a hard profession with a lot of rejection and heartbreak. Don't go into it expecting riches and fame. Of course that can happen but it is always a long shot. Make sure you love it and are willing to do the work.

Question: Thank You Colin for all the laughs over the years. You have always been my favorite on Whose Line because you are able to think very fast.My question is Do you feel comedy is the only way to unite the world, and how should we as humans stop letting what others say bother us and what is needed to chill out and smile?
Steve
Comedy is always needed and could bring the world together if used correctly. In the wrong hands you get a Brad Sherwood situation.
From: Emily

Question: First of all, I've been your biggest fan since I was 7. You're the best. My question is, do you enjoy watching yourself on TV or do you think it's weird?
Emily
It is weird seeing myself on television. First off I am generally embarrassed by what that guy will do for a laugh and secondly I am so much more beautiful off-camera it always disappoints me that the camera doesn't pick that up.

Question: Is there such a thing as 'Canadian Comedy' and if there is can you describe it? Also, what do you think are the differences and similarities between Canadian, US and UK comedy?
I do hope you'll be touring your show sometime soon in England! Best wishes, fond memories and clear horizons for the future.
Rich
I don't know if there is a specific Canadian Comedy. Having the US as our neighbours gives us a bit of a inferiority complex and I think most of our humour comes from being an outsider. We have had a big US and British influence on us and I think our comedy is a melding of the two.

Question: Dear Colin,
I’m currently sat watching the UK version of ‘Whose line is it anyway’ (as I do... very often) and let me just say – you are wonderful! You never fail to bring a smile to my face.
I’m an art student so I guess my question to you is ‘do you have a favourite artist? And who is it’? But I’m going to be honest; this has all just been a cunning distraction! I just wanted to write and tell you that I have such a crush on you! Humour is most certainly the way to a woman’s heart... That and a cheeky little smile!
YOU ROCK!
Victoria
Thanks for noticing my cheeky little smile. I am a big fan of the impressionists. Monet is a favourite.
From: Gerry
Location: Glasgow, Scotland
Question: I can't believe you were born in scotland! Do ever come back home? If so, any plans for a gig or two?
Also do you like football (soccer)? If so, do you follow any scottish teams?
Gerry
I do get back to Scotland every once in a while, in fact I was just in Edinburgh for the festival and was lucky enough to get to do a show with Paul Merton, Jim Sweeney and Richard Vranch. We would love to get a gig going there. I don't follow the teams over there but if I did I would have to go with my hometown Kilmarnock.

Question: Have you ever had the chance to meet Nathan Lane? being a voice on one of his cartoon shows and all..

Question: Does Mr. Mochrie have any casual hobbies besides as a chef? Like does he play a musical insturmant or anything like that? For some reason I could picture him as a drummer for a bluegrass/rock band. Like it's a hobby he could get into. But since I've never seen him in anything besides "Who's Line is it Anyway?" I was wondering if Colin could clarify
Bobby
If you have seen Whose Line then you must know I have no musical talent whatsoever. My son and wife play drums and I snap my fingers really well.
From: Johnny N.
Question: Dear Dr.Mochrie,
Do you think your show with Brad would be suitable for anyone under 18?
Johnny
Absolutely. Our fans run the gamut from 6-90. We have a lot of families come to the show so we tend to be mindful of that. It usually doesn't get any worse than the TV show, though Brad swears sometimes.
From: Geraldine M.

Question: Hi Colin,
I just wish to thank you for taking part in Whose Line is it Anyway? - I have been going through a tough time at work and am currently in the process of looking for a new job and what has been getting me through is that I have been recording Whose Line from Five US and Dave channel so that I can watch them when I get in, no matter how stressed I have got during the day you and Ryan can always make me laugh. I hope to one day see you and Brad. My question is what got you through a tough period in your life? (Except for your family - I must say without my hubby nothing would have made me smile :-))
Geraldine
Sense of humour helped me through bad times, although it tends to get blacker when things get rough. But trying to see the lighter side does get you through rough patches sometimes

Question: Hi Colin - I'm 10 and I'm being molded by my Mom to appreciate great comedy. So, I have to prepare a speech from school on any topic related to "humour" and you're my "Topic" :) Question: Could you/would you be able to give me one funny memory from when you were in the 5th grade that I could use in my speech? I promise to save the email and frame it if you respond!!!
Sam
I can barely remember three questions ago, never mind 5th grade. Oh wait I think in the 5th grade I invented Velcro.
From: Helen

Question: Hi Colin, hope you're well!
As I was reading through these questions I saw someone asking about you touring the UK (please do!) and noticed something about your wife being in Women Fully Clothed. Then it hit me that I saw that show last August at the Edinburgh Fringe and I was all excited at the time with "It's Kathy Greenwood! She's on Whose Line!"
Were you there in Edinburgh at the time and did you take in any other shows? If I was near to the mighty and powerful Colin Mochrie and I didn't know it I'll be shocked into oblivion.
Helen,
I was there for the entire fringe and saw some great shows .One-Man Star Wars, Paul Merton, An Evening with Victor Spinelli. Sting for Nolte, The Tom Tom Club and many others.
From: Rachel
Location: Indiana
Question: Hey Colin! I really admire you and your work! You are, by far, my favorite comedian! Since I've stopped caring what other people think, I've gotten more laughs. What else do you recomend for getting a laugh? So far, I've just gone along with whatever anyone says. Also, were you in band in high school? Only the most random people in the world were in band. I would know; I'm a total band geek. If you were in band, what did you play? (I play clarinet) One last question, are you ever going to visit Indiana, land of freak weather and corn?! Thanks for takin' the time to read this!
Rachel
I was never in band, though I always wanted to play the trumpet. We visit Indiana all the time, most recently Wabash.

Question: Even though I'm only 16, over the last few years you have become one of my most heroic improv comedians ever (alongside all the others from Whose Line). My question is: If you could be the main star of any film in the world, what would it be? P.S. I would love to see the live show you do with Brad Sherwood, please come to the UK! =]

I would love to do a remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" or ""North by Northwest"

Question: Colin, how is it that your impersonation of a dinosaur is so exquisitely accurate? Did this require much practise?
Rob
Dinosaur impressions take lots of practise and...hahahahahahahahahahahahah. Just kidding. I based my dinosaur on old movies by a great stop-motion artist named Harry Harryhausen. He did movies like Jason and the Argonauts and many that had dinosaurs.

Question: Hello Colin, I have a quite serious question for you... I will not start to explain all my situation, but let's just say I'm 19, I'm studying to become a math teacher and now I'm thinking about doing photography and digital design (is it the right term?) for a living. So my main hesitation is if I'm going to earn enough money to buy a house, have some kids etc... and my question : Would you still do what you do if you earned barely enough money to live ? Is it worth it to do what you like in this situation in your opinion?
Thanks for taking time to answer me and forgive the mistakes (I'm french...) you really are an inspiration to me in your work and your personality (however I only want your opinion, I won't do exactly what you say :)
David
I’m glad you won’t do exactly what I say because this is something that can only be answered by you. I was in the business for almost 20 years before it paid off for me. There were many times I was almost literally homeless. For me it was worth it because a) I love it and b) I have no other skills. There are no guarantees in life, you may be successful right away, it may take awhile. It’s up to you whether or not you can live without doing what you love.
From: Clay
Question: I have a bit of a strange question. I was looking at an interview with Ryan, Greg, Jeff and Chip being that they're doing their own thing these days, and I noticed the group photo used in the article was one I've seen before. One of all of them plus you and Brad, but someone had photoshopped out you and Brad, and I just think that was so incredibly rude and kind of disturbing. It also got me wondering if you think you'll ever tour in a larger group again. I've heard that you don't enjoy it as much as the two man show, and that's understandable, but I imagine you might miss working with those guys. You can only tour with Brad for so many years before wanting to mix things up a bit, yeah? And to end this on a lighter note, I'm a bit of an artist, and I drew a picture of you as a ninja. Thought you might get a kick out of it. :)
http://claydevil.net/spif/whoseline/ninjacolin.jpg
Hey Clay
I did get a kick out of your picture, you captured my muscular calves perfectly. To answer your question I could absolutely tour with a big group again. It’s hard, when everyone is so busy, to get it going and I’m still having fun with what’s-his-name but who knows?

Question: In an earlier Q & A you told a fan to call the local theaters to bring the show to their city. Tried that, got answers like-uh,ok thanks, WHO?,and we can't afford them. So much for that idea. Fortunately I likes to wander so I reckon I'll be seeing ya'll somewhere out there this year.
Is this the final year of touring? Hope not.And why do ya'll wear black so much?
Hey Jan
This is not our last year of touring because we both still have mortgages. I wear black because it’s slimming. I’m 360 pounds.

Question: I have enjoyed your performances immensely, you are an awesome comedian. One of the few things that help me forget about my longterm illness is watching you in Whose Line. Thank you so much.
Is it true that you were discovered by Bob Hope when you worked as an assistant for the Hilton Sisters?
Hey Paul
I was actually discovered by Abraham Lincoln at a play he saw. It didn’t end well.

Question: Hi Colin!
You seem to be the perfect man; funny, smart, sexy and obviously with a big heart. So my question is; do you have a dark side? Or even any faults at all?
Hey May Lin
You seem to be perfect yourself, obviously a genius! I do have a dark side but you can see it during my daily orbit around the sun.
From: Jenn
Location: Jacksonville, FL
Question: I was at your show at UNF in Jacksonville. My question is how do you and Brad deal with difficult volunteers - such as the mean little child who continued to honk his horn in Brad's ear? Do things like that happen often.
You are a sweetheart by the way and I just adore you ;)
Jenn
I adore you too. Difficult volunteers are…well difficult. You have to handle it with a certain amount of humour and class so that the show doesn’t come to a complete stop. Or you can use a tire iron.
From: Molly
Location: Long Island, NY
Question: Hey Colin! I've loved you and Whose Line since I was 10 (seven years). Thank you for bringing me endless laughter (and the occasional punctured lung). My question is: If you could wake up one day with the sudden ability to play a musical instrument, what instrument would you play? Thanks for your time!
Molly
I have always wanted to play piano, to be able to one of those people who can sit at a piano at a party and just go for it. Or a kazoo.

Question: Hi, Colin. Recently I was offered a role, but it entailed nudity. I almost believe that this is expected of women in order to get certain roles, especially music videos. There is always someone else who will. Of course, I declined, but in the future, what's your advice on handling a situation like that? By the way, thank you for your autograph picture. It's my favorite thing.
Ruthie
Of course this is something I deal with every day. If you are not comfortable with it, don’t do it. If someone wants you badly enough for a role, they should be able to work around it.

Question: I'll get right to my question. If you could change one thing in today's world, what would it be? Also when you have a break/vacation from your work and comedy, do you still have comedy as a part of your life or do you put it on hold until you get back to work?
Megan
If I could change the world I would put Europe closer to North America. Humour is always a part of my life. I live with funny people.
From: Marissa (or Goat)

Question: Hey Colin, whats up?
I'm doing a biography on you, famous man. But I'm gonna be a bit harsh. I need more info! But before I go on with my lifes story, I'm 11 goin on 12, what is it like to be famous? And was it shocking to become famous? I might go on forever and such. Oh! I also crack a few people up at school, one time made a guy fall over laughing on the ground, but how do you stop yourself from laughing at your own jokes?
Marissa (or Goat)
Being famous has its perks and it is better than being Brad. It was a little shocking but totally justified. I have too many things going on to stop to laugh at my own jokes i.e. keeping the scene going, trying to come to an ending, trying to get Brad to pull his weight.

Question: I'm not old enough to have seen Sid Caesar on tv in the 1950's, but have seen enough clips and snippets of his work to get a hint at his comedic genius. What impressed you most about his appearance on WLIIA? I am so amazed by his ability to do sketches in other languages.
And, if you had a dream dinner party, and could invite anyone at all, whom would you invite and what would you prepare for them?
We cannot wait until you and Brad come back to Lan-kister, LOL!!!
Joanne
What impressed me most was how sharp and funny Sid is. He is one of my idols and it was just a thrill to meet him, never mind working with him.
A dream dinner party would be me, Michelle Pfeiffer and pasta.

Question: Hi. I'm a painter (in that I draw silly little pictures and occasionally someone is gullible enough to pay actual money for the dubious honour of owning one) and in a strange and probably unexplainable way, you helped me through a difficult bit of my life and inspired me to paint again ... so would you consider it a complete imposition for me to send you a painting??

Question: Hi Colin!
In watching reruns of Whose Line now, I've noticed that in games like Party Quirks and Let's Make A Date the contestants seem to tell each other what their suggestion/quirk is sometimes. i was wondering if the contestants always do this so that they have an idea what each other is likely to do, or do you prefer to keep it a surprise from your fellow contestants as well, and why? Thanks so much for your time...your work has brought a lot of joy in my life. :)

On WLIIA do you think that the others were secretly jealous because you always got to play the girl??
And an even tinier request ...
Your army of fans is getting a teeny bit restless waiting for the world-conquering to begin ... do you think we could possibly have an order or two to keep us busy? Thanks
Anna
Brad was definitely jealous, him being a real girl and all. The world-conquering starts in fall ’09. Stock up on longjohns and jerky. Stay tuned.

Question: Hi Colin! First of all I would like to say that I love you! You are

Question: Hey Colin! I loved watching you on Whose Line is it Anyway? You
are the most talented and cutest improviser out of all of them. My question
is: Have you ever heard of The Frantics? If so, are you a fan? I learned

I have heard of the Frantics and have worked with half of them. Dan Redican

Question from: Heather from Menomonee Falls
Question: Hi Colin! I just saw yours and Brad's show in Milwaukee on Saturday
January 20th. (You may remember the Interrogation game involving Menomonee
Falls!) I can't tell you how bad my side ached after leaving. Thank you for
that. Now to the question.....do you have any idea how much your comedy
touches the lives of people? I suffer from depression and I can't tell you
how much watching Who's Line and going to your show means to me. Laughter is
THE best medicine. I have to tell you that I watch the Who's Line episode
where you end up kissing everybody every night. Thank you for bringing joy to
my heart and lifting my spirits.
Heather
Thanks for your kind words. We are fortunate in that people tell us how we
have touched them in even a small way and we are always touched.
Question from: James from Sheffield, UK
Question: Hi Colin!
I'm a huge fan of your work on Whose Line! Everytime I visit the states I book
the TV in my accommodation when Whose Line is on! I was wondering whether
you've ever been on YouTube and watched Whose Line clips and the comments? The
stuff people say about you would definatly put a smile on your face.
James
I haven't been to YouTube but I will now check it out.
Question from: Ali from England

Ali
No

Daniel
It's my gift and my curse.
Question from: Oceane from Canada
Question: I just wanted to tell you that I am the little girl that played your
little girl in the movie "The Yellow Woman" and I miss you very much. You were
always nice to me and made me feel comfortable on the set...My mom said you
were nice too. My question is: Did you like filming in Montreal and will you
be coming back to do other movies?
Oceane
It was great working with you. I loved Montreal and will come back when
someone hires me.
Question from: Jenni from Ottawa, Ontario
Question: Hi Colin,
I am in the Television Broadcasting program at Algonquin College in Ottawa and
I am creating a television show for class. The show is a lot like Whose
Line... okay it basically is Whose Line but with college students.. anyway, I
have to come up with a lineup for the show and I was wondering if you have any
idea how long each of the games were on Whose Line? Thanks a bunch... and by
the way... did I mention you rock?
Jenni
the games were usually 3-4 minutes with some like greatest hits going a
little longer. Did I mention, you mammal.
Question from: Kat from Glendale
Question: Hey Colin!
I saw your performance at the Celeb theatre recently in Phoenix and decided
that you had the best job ever. I saw yours and Brad's schedule for the next
year and saw how little time you had between gigs. Don't you ever wish you
could spend more time with your family?
Kat
Have you met my family?
Question
From: Daniel James B. from Burlington, Ontario
Question: A year ago I saw you in a comic store (The Silver Snail) in Toronto.
I was wondering what you go there for.
Daniel
Oddly enough I go for the comics. They don't have them at Starbucks
Question from: Lara from NYC
Question: Colin, will you please play Man in Chair in Broadway's "The Drowsy
Chaperone" when Bob Martin leaves the show? (you're the only person besides
Bob that we "Drowsy" fans can see playing that role.)
Lara
Bob is doing the show in London and I was asked to do it for a month until
his replacement on Broadway was ready. Unfortunately I couldn't because of
other commitments but one day....
Question from: keith from England.
Question: Hi Colin,
Hope your fit and well!
I have suffered from depression for most of my life, and its only recently
that I have found re-runs of you performing on WLiiA that has me crying with
laughter everytime. Question: Who makes you cry with laughter?
Keith
John Cleese and Ricky Gervais
Question from: Emily C. from Mill Valley, CA
Question: It's a two-parter... 1), How did you make me and my family love you
so much? and 2), really, seriously, we've seen you about 50 times in WLIIA we
think you're the funniest man ever, and I'm going to make this into a question
by adding a question mark?
Emily
You love me because I am sending subliminal messages through the television
and 2) thanks?
Question from: Emma from Perth Australia
Question: Hi Colin! I'd just like to ask what your favourite movies of 2006

Lauren
I am a warm weather person and I would love to live in New Zealand.
February 22, 2007
Question from: Lisa from Australia
Question: Hello Colin.
I have heard that you wanted to become a marine biologist before you decided
upon being a fantastic comedian. Did you have any ideas about where you wanted
to work or which animal you wanted to work with?
Cheers,
Lisa
Dolphins have always held a fascination for me, so I think that is what I
would concentrate on and somewhere warm. No Arctic expeditions for me!
Question from: Sydney from Sydney
Question: Hi Colin,
My third try, and apparently the third time is a charm, (I normally go for 47
but hey, whatever floats your boat!)
Apart from saying that I think you're really fantastic, I wanted to ask: Mr
Mochrie, are you a theatre man? If so what plays do you like and would you be
in one if you were asked?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully responding. (I love
theatre by the way!)
I am a Theatre man. The Drowsy Chaperone and Avenue Q are two of my recent
favourites. I have a weakness for musicals.
Question from: kate from glendale!
Question: Hi Colin! I decided to be daring for Thanksgiving and tried your
roasted turkey dish instead of letting my grandmother take the reigns. The
family loved it! I was wondering if you were making a cookbook and where might
I get one?
Kate
I have thought about a cookbook but right now I just don't have time.
Question from: Donald J.
Question: Hey, Colin. I've noticed recently since the Colin/Brad shows got
started, you occasionally, playfully make jokes about Brad through your site.
It's funny, but it'd be cool to hear you make playful slams against your other
fellow WL co-stars. Howabout some dirt on Greg, Kathy Greenwood, Chip, Wayne
and Denny Siegel?
Donald
I don't have anything to slam those guys with. With Brad, the world is my
oyster because there is so much wrong with him and he really irritates me.
Question from: Arica, Survivor of the tragic gene splicing DooWop Disaster from Middle of No Where Georgia
Question: A question from one dimpled lefty to another: One of my favorite
actors of all time is Cary Grant. I've read that you like North By Northwest.
Do you prefer him in more dramatic roles or his comedy roles? A couple of my
favorites are Arsenic and Old Lace and Bringing Up Baby. He is a very
versitile actor. Do you prefer playing comedic roles or would you branch out
and do more dramatic work?
Arica
I love Cary Grant in everything. I prefer comedy because it is so much fun
for me but I certainly wouldn't turn down any dramatic work. I am currently
working on something that has absolutely no laughs in it.."The Comedy of
Brad Sherwood"
Question from: rachel-eireann from london
Question: Hey Colin-
At your request...."how does Brad Sherwood get by on so little talent?"
Theoretically: if you could do a one time WLIIA show with anyone living or
dead...who(whom??)?
You are my hero - come to London!!
Rachel-Eirann
What Brad lacks in talent he makes up for in picking comedic partners.
That is the key to his success. And I would love to do a WLIIA with John
Cleese, Jonathan Winters, Groucho Marx and Tracy Ullman.
Question from: Katey from Lisbon, Ohio
Question: Hi Colin,
Sorry if you already saw this on the birthday board, but you and Brad
were hilarious in Warren (had a front row seat in the middle)and it was nice
of you to set up that game where the guy asked the girl to marry him. My
question is about how many tours did you and Brad do, and about how many more
do you think will come?
Katey
We have been touring for three years now and will keep going till no one
comes to the shows.
Question from: Jennifer from the UK
Question: Hi Colin! Just woundering if it made you uncomfortable while plays
Helping Hands, in the US version of Whose Line, when Ryan spits the things he
doesnt want to eat back into your hands? Because that would make me feel very
uncomfortable. By the way I think your great!
Jennifer
If you watch the games I actually initiated all of the most uncomfortable
things so I guess I was okay with it.I've had worse things in my hands when
playing a certain Party Quirks.
Question from: Hanne from Norway
Question: Dear Colin
I'm a great fan from Norway (we don't air any of your shows, I watch them on
dvd and internet)I got 2 questions(hope you don't mind) =P You don't seem to
fond of Brad, if so why do you then work with him, or are you just kidding?
Second question is: do you hang out with Ryan Stiles anymore (thanks for all
the laughs!)
Oh, and pleeeease be out touring early 2008 as I will be going to USA then=)
Hanne
I am just kidding with Brad. When you are on the road with someone for
years and they are the only person on stage with you, it really helps if you
get along.
I don't see Ryan as much as I'd like since I am in Canada and he is in
Washington State.
Question from: Emily from Austin, Texas
Question: Hey, Colin! First of all, I would like you to know that you are a
comedic genius! Second, my question is: What is your favorite kind of humor? (
In other words, what made you say "I want to be a comedian"?)
Emily
I like all kinds of humour. Anything that makes me laugh, I love.
Question from: Isabella from New York
Question: Hi Mr.Mochrie
I was just wondering, what was it like for you and everyone else on the last
episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Isabella
It was like any other show. We didn't know at that time that it was the
last show. In fact as far as I know we are still on hiatus.
Question from: Thomas from Windsor, Ontario
Question: Hello Colin
Would you ever consider bringing us (your loyal fans) to conquer the world and
lead us in a never ending quest for total domination?
Thomas
Sure.
Question from: Lisa from Pittsburgh, PA
Question: I love watching Whose Line whenever I can. It's really awesome to
have a good laugh at people having a really good time when there aren't enough
things to laugh about in the world.
Yesterday I happened to watch some of the best clips I have in a while,
including the whole 'I'll be your lightning rod of hate!' comment, and I got
to wondering. With all of the running gags in Whose Line, did any of the cast
members ever seriously get offended? On the show, at least, it always appeared
as though everyone was good natured about it.
Kudos to you for enduring years of bald jokes!
Lisa
No one ever got offended. We all knew that it was all for the cause of
getting a laugh. Drew would often feel bad and apologize after a show about
the bald jokes. I would just cry and run away.
Question from: Mike from Chicago
Question: Hi Colin
First of, will you ever write a book or do an animated series that features
your risible exploits? I think either would do quite well.
Secondly, are their any books you'd like to make into a movie? What are they,
if any? Thanks.
Mike
First off, no. I would love to make a movie out of "The Joy of Cooking"
Question from: Janelle from Melbourne, Australia
Question: Hi Colin, I'd just like to thank you for giving me so many laughs
over these years. I'd always turn to your hilarity when things were getting
rough, so thanks for being there without even knowing it! I'd like to ask what
you do when you get nervous on stage. I love doing Theatre Sports and i'm a
Student currently studying Theatre Studies and i was looking for some tips on
overcoming nervousness from someone who's just as shy as I am. Also, Can you
Please please please come out to Australia, I'd LOVE to See the Colin and Brad
show, it would be a dream come true! Thanks a Bunch and Good luck for
everything!
Janelle
I really don't know what I do. For me the stage is my most comfortable
place. Just concentrate on the scene and the people you are working with and
remember how much fun it is.
Question from: Lauren from International Falls, MN
Question: Hey Colin! Hope you had a great holiday season! How do you
celebrate the holidays? Do you have any traditions that you look forward to?
And speaking of holidays, whats your least and most favourite holiday? Have a
good one!!
Lauren
My wife is a holiday elf. She makes them all special. My favourite
tradition is the sleep after everything is done. Love Christmas, hate Shave
Brad's Back Day.
Question from: Colleen from Sacramento
Question: I find it really interesting that you are a shy person and I feel so
special cause I'm a very shy person too. I'm a junior in high school and I am
very quiet around people. So my question is what was high school like for you
being such a shy person and when u got ur first laugh, how dramatic was the
change in ur personality? Sorry for monolonging(hope I spelled it right:)
Thanks for taking the time to answer this and I hope I get to see u when you
come 2 UC Davis! Okay Im done talking bye
Colleen
I was very shy and quiet in high school and an honour student until I got
my first laugh in the school play. Then as I became known as the funny guy
I became that role. But my palms still sweat profusely.
Question from: matt b. from burlington, ontario
Question: hey colin do you have any chili recipes?
Matt
No.
Question from: Pam D. from Hamilton, Ohio
Question: Hey there! Just a quick note to say that my sister and I have been
Colinized!!!!!!!
Hey Colin, we grew up loving the Carol Burnett show, have you ever seen it?
If so, how did you like it?
We love ya Col! We're going to make it our mission to visit you in Lakeside
Ohio in July 2007. Please pick us to participate....(we are the fat and funny
sisters) lol
Keep living large Col!
Pam
I loved the Carol Burnett show. One of Brad and my dreams came true when we
bumped into Tim Conway and Harvey Korman in Des Moines and spent some time
with them. They were lovely.
Question from: David from Seattle
Question: I keep having a dream with you, Natasha (from the Rocky and
Bullwinkle show), and a jar of pickles. What does it mean???
David
It means you shouldn't sleep.
Question from: Herold A. from west jordan utah
Question: Hi Mr. Mochrie, I Just wanted to let you know that you are awesome!
I understand that you do a lot of charity work and that is cool. Im 16 and I
go to the schools in my district and get their lost and found items and donate
them to the battered womens shelter in my city. we need more people like
you!!!! My question to you is when did you do your first charity and what was
it for?
Herold
I think the first charity that I was associated with in more than a giving
money way, was Gilda's Club which was started by Gilda Radner to help people
and their families who were living with cancer. It is a great organization.
Question from: Melissa from CA
Question: hey Collin, just wondering, do you really speak French?? oh and what
was your favorite Party Quirk moment? i can't get over Ryan Breaking the
glass! "wouldn't it be better if your head burst into flames?!"
Melissa
I can't speak French unfortunately. I think my favourite Party Quirk was
touching everyones genitals.
Question from: Natalie A. from Columbus Ohio
Question: Dear Colin, I love your work on Whose Line and your stage show with
Brad was really funny. My question is did your contract for Whose Line really
say that you had to shave your head? And do you ever have people come up to in
the street and call you by some nickname that you got on a show, like the
Snack Fairy or the evil Tickler?
Natalie
No I didn't shave my head and yes people often yell out some nickname from
the show, usually Captain Hair.
Question from: Craig from Vancouver
Question: Hi Colin, love your work. Do you know if or when they will release
Blackfly on DVD?
Thank you, keep up the great performances.
Craig
Craig
As far as I know there are no plans to release Blackfly on DVD. I'll see
what I can do.
Question from: Melissa from Twin Cities,MN
Question: Colin- I think you are hilariously funny, talented, and a you seem
like a total sweetheart. I want to know, as a single 32 year old girl, where
in the world do I find men like you? They seem to be in hiding.
Don't they know there are attractive, vibrant, sensuous women out there that
really like the sweet, shy, funny types? I'd sure appreciate your advice.
Thanks! =)
Melissa
Sorry to tell you there are no men like me. I was designed by a team of
female animatronic experts who built me according to the specifications of
what every woman wants and needs. Brad was built to scare crows.
Keep looking, the guy is out there but if he's like me you have to take the
first step.
Question from: Susan
Question: Hello Colin!
I heard through the rumor mill that Brad Sherwood is finally getting married!
Will you and the guys be throwing him a batchelor party, and if so, will there
be the usual stag films and stripper in a cake? Will there be mousetrap
games?
Susan
Brad did get married in a beautiful sunrise ceremony in Maui. There was no
bachelor party or mousetrap games, just eating, drinking and laughing.
Question from: May-Lin fromNorway
Question: First of all I want to thank you for being the only one who can
alwyas make me laugh even when I've had a bad day. Whose line is my favorite
show ever, and I can't believe they've stopped making it. Which brings me to
my question - if the show has big enough ratings that they keep making "new"
episodes from the leftovers, why not just make new shows? And how much of what
you did originally made it to air? In other words how long until they run out
of leftovers and have to have you back to make new stuff? Oh and I have the
biggest crush on you, is there a cure for that?
May-Lin
There is no cure for the Mochrie crush. Just drink plenty of water. As to
your questions about the show and it's ratings I don't know. The networks
have a way of working that doesn't really make a lot of business sense. I
think most of the stuff we did is now out there so it could be the well is
now dry.
January 18, 2007
Question from: Katrina from England
Question: Hi Colin!
Did you have any way of perfecting your lyrics in the singing games of Whose Line? Was it a case of thinking up the punchline first and working around it?
Thanks,
Have a great day.
Katrina
Why are you asking me this? Haven't you ever seen my songs?
Question from: Rai
Question: Hullo! I love how you can make such witty comebacks. Is this a gift, or can anyone learn it? How? And can you give us 10 tips on how to improv (or save an improv :D)?Lastly, I'd just like to say that I marvel at your good humour and smile. <3 laughter really is the best medicine!
Rai
What can I tell you it's a gift. Here are my 10 tips
1) Listen
2) be open to anything
3)Listen
4) surround yourself with hacks so that you look better.
5)Listen
6) Get an affable multi millionaire to get a show for you.
7) Don't force your ideas into a scene. Let everything flow naturally.
8-10) Listen.
Question from: Kayci from Pennsylvania
Question: Ok first of all, you are my hero, I'm trying to be just like you only with hair. Second of all CANADIANS RULE!!! (sorry, I was born in Canada myself) Ok now for the question. Right now in my Theater Arts class (I know, how lucky am I, I get to take this for high school credits) we are doing Improv (starting the unit of course by watching some Whose Line is it Anyway) and I just cannot seem to get down this acting without scripts thing. I can't just come up with stuff right away. And when I finally think of a witty response it's five hours later and I can't very well walk up to the person I was doing the improv activity with and say "See that's why I broke up with you! Always with the court orders!" Well I could, but I wouldn't have very many friends that way. Anyway, how do you come up with all the stuff you do on a moments notice?
Kayci
I have no idea how I do what I do. I just open my mouth and trust it will all work out.
Question from: megan from new jersey
Question: hello Mr. Mochrie<3
I'll get right to the question. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Do you play any sports? Are you very close with your son? Thanks a bunch.
love megan<33
Megan
I enjoy reading and cooking and yes I am very close with my son.
Question from: Natalie from Salt Lake City, Utah
Question: Colin the great one!
What has been your most favorite movie to do.... or even Improv thing you've done?
Your fan in SLC Natalie!
Natalie
Whose Line is the highlight...that's how bad the career is going.
Question from: Joanie from San Diego
Question: Hey Colin,
I'm thinking of buying a shirt because the header said you'd come wash my dog if I did. I don't have a dog, but I do have a very dirty car. And dishes. And a kid who gets muddy a lot. Which are you willing to wash?
Joanie
Somebody, get security!!!
Question from: Rose
Question: Hey Colin! I always loved it on Whose Line when you and Ryan would do skits together. I've seen two clips so far in which during a game, you or Ryan said to the other: "You started it!" I've heard that it was some kind of competition between you two. What's the story behind that?
Rose
I don't know if you've noticed but at times Ryan would make bald jokes. So in response I started doing nose or whatever jokes. Before every show Ryan would swear that he would not do a bald joke, which was a lie. The times you refer to were the times that I did a preemptive strike.
Question from: Zade from Northport, Alabama
Question: dear mr. colin: i am zade. i am 5 years old. my tonsels hurt so the docter took them out. watching you be silly on tv makes me feel better. you are very funny. do you like docter suess books? witch one is your favroite? mine is the cat in the hat. thank you for letting me ask you a queston.
Zade
The Cat in the Hat is also my favourite. It is the one I always read to my son when he was younger.
Question from: Brad from Radford, Virngina
Question: Hey Colin...you sure do answer alot of these from what I've seen. My question is, where does all the violence come from?...I mean in WLIIA you have used a dead cat as a wig, knocked out unassuming custumers in your hair salon and then threw them out the window...and tonight during "unusual party gifts" you offered the head of a dead goat. You are the funniest person I've ever seen on tv.
Brad
Have you seen the people I work with? I had to let the deep rooted rage out somehow.
Question from: Susan from Irving, TX
Question: My daughter and I recently saw the Whose Line episode where you and Wayne did a breakdance during 'Greatest Hits' (the Asteroid Bugaloo). We were just wondering - did someone dare you to do the dance? Or was it just another example of your comic brilliance? We both think you are the greatest, btw!!
Susan
It was my comic brilliance and my nonexistent sense of my limitations.
Question from: Jack from Darlington, North East England
Question: Hey Colin! I have always admired your quick wit and great improv skills, I'm sure you will have been asked this before but do you have any tips on how to make it in the business? I come from an entertainment background and am wanting to be a proffesional comedian, preferrably improv, some day but I am unsure on how to start. I hope I can get the chance to travel to the US and meet you soon.
Jack
You have to do it wherever you can, whenever you can. Join a troupe or start one. Get a thick skin so you can handle rejection. Good luck.
Question from: Kristin from Little Rhodie
Question: Hi Colin! I've been a fan of yours for a few years now, and I still think you're hysterical. You never fail to make me laugh, and for that, I thank you.
I digress. Here's the question. If you could listen to one CD or album for the next 10 years, over and over, what would the album/CD be?
Thanks :-)
Kristen
That's a tough one but I think I would have to pick the CD " Every Song Ever Recorded in the Last Century"
Question from: Judy from Warminster, PA
Question: Colin, Whose Line is the only show I've ever watched where I have laughed out loud by myself. I can't get enough of it. I wanted to ask if you have ever worked with Rowan Atkinson. If you have, I missed it, and what was it? Keep up the funny stuff...it's the greatest!!!!
Judy
I have never worked with Rowan Atkinson, sadly. I have worked with Chutney Atkinson, my mechanic.
Question from: Jessica from Reedley, California
Question: Hi Colin! I'm a huge fan of yours. I was wondering, do you like musicals? If so, what are your favorite musicals?
Love,
Jessica
Jessica
I am a musical fan. From the movies I would have to say "Singin' in the Rain". Of the current crop Avenue Q and The Drowsy Chaperone.
Question from: Natalie from Columbus, Ohio
Question: I must say I love Whose Line! Watching your acting made me inspired to pursue a career in acting! My question(s)are what is your favorite part of reading these questions? I think my dad looks like Drew Carey should I be scared or happy? And, me and my friend want to bring back improv to television, any tips?
Natalie
Be Scared. As to tips for bringing back improv to television, if I had any I would have used them.
Question from: Jenny from Tallahassee, FL
Question: Did you have a dvd release party with all of the guys from Whose Line?
Jenny
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahaha....no.
Question from: annette from the philippines
Question: hi colin! have you been in asia? would you and the allstars consider performing here (the philippines specifically)? i think filipinos would be ecstatic to see you do improv. they would finally see where all these local comedy/gag shows are getting their ideas from! does imitation flatter you? thanks!
Annette
I have performed in Asia with some of the Brit Whose Liners and I would love to play the Phillipines. It just that the people I work with are banned from being anywhere else on earth.
Question from: Dee from Toronto
Question: Hey Colin! First off- you're amazing!!! Secondly I was watching 'Totally Blonde' (yessss) and I wanted to know--- how was that experience?? Did you make up that material or was it scripted or half and half? p.s. I Looooved the shirt you were wearing! pps you are just sooo funny!
Dee
Totally Blonde was fun. I was there for an hour and just improvised 4 or 5 scenarios. I love work like that.
Question from: Julia from Toronto
Question: Dear Colin,
As one who also worships the Shiny One, is it ok to come over and tell you how much you make me laugh when I see you in restaurants?
You and Brad were fabulous last night! Ahh, in the show that is, if you know what I mean...
Julia
Julia
Absolutely it's fine to come over to say hi in restaurants...it's even better to pick up the tab.
Question from: K Mac from Vancouver
Question: hey Colin
Did you ever think about coming back to killarney for a visit??
And Who Was Your favourite Teacher??
Would you come to vancouver for the olympics??
K Mac
I am hoping to get to Vancouver for the Olympics. My favourite teacher was my biology teacher Mr Ratzlaff. Who knows maybe one day I'll get back.
Question from: Whitney from Lawrenceville, GA
Question: Hey, Colin! Let me just say that you inspired me to do Improv at my High School! With the Whose Line DVD out, do you think there would be any chance of Whose Line coming back if a lot of people bought it (which is what Family Guy did)? Thanks for your time.
Whitney
I wish I could figure out the pinhead network executives who make these decisions but alas I cannot. I'm sure if the DVD made millions we would be back on in a minute, but who knows.
January 15, 2007
Question from: David from Phoenix
Question: Colin- I'm writing a report on Improv for my English class.
Basically, I have to get quotes from experts about Improv and I figure it
would be a lot easier to just ask you than, I dunno, read. What is the most
important thing to remember when Improving? How do you keep your mind sharp?
Is it good for anything off stage? And is there anything else you could say
about it? If you answer these questions I will really appreciate it and send
you a ham.
Hey David
The most important thing to remember when improvising is just to listen and
don't have anything planned. if you are thinking about what you want to put
into the scene you may miss a nugget that your partner may have given you. I
never keep my mind sharp. Improv may help in getting out of a parking ticket
but nothing else. I have nothing left to say. I look forward to the
ham...unless you mean you are sending me Brad Sherwood.
Question from: Danielle from Australia
Question: Hi Colin! I was just wondering if you have ever thought about what
your life would be like if you hadn't listened to your friend who said you
should try out for a play. Do you think you still would've found your way
into Improv comedy?
Hey Danielle,
I have no idea what would have happened if I had ignored my friend. That
event changed my life and led to a career and even possibly my wife and
son.I can't even think about any alternative.
Question from: Natalie, 15 years old from Columbus, Ohio
Question: Dear Mr. Mochrie(I feel I should be formal),
My brother is trying to get into theater but is currently living in Chicago.
I was wondering if you might have any parts in movies that might need a
young 23 year old actor? Thank you very much for your time.
Natalie
I am too busy to find parts that need an old 49 year old actor to worry
about your brother. who needs the competition?
Question from: Deanna from Wisconsin
Question: Hello Colin! First, I would just like to say you are amazing!
You are a very talented performer, hilarious comedian, and are totally
adorable. My question is do you remember anything particularly strange from
any of the Colin and Brad shows? (you know, odd suggestions you remember or
just weird people from the crowd)
Thank You very much!
Deanna
You are obviously a very intelligent and shrewd young woman. The two
strange things that I remember is: 1) a guy sitting in the front row dressed
in a horse costume and 2) we just did a show in a large warehouse with an
Indian flea market around the perimeter of the audience. they kept selling
up until 10 minutes before the show.
Question from: Nairoviz G. from Moca, Puerto Rico
Question: First of all, Hello.
Now to the question, here goes...
What was the strangest thing you've read about yourself (on the web,
magazines, ect.)that was not true?
Thanks!!!
Nairoviz
I read a couple of things about my death which was strange and one women
put up a picture of the two of us alluding that we were more than friends.
the odd thing was that my wife was the one who took the picture. She frowns
on me having affairs.
Question from: Natalie from Warren, MI
Question: Hi Colin! Just to see a reply from you would be a dream! I am 12
and I am a big fan of yours! When my friends asked me what I wanted to be
for Halloween, I told them that I would love to be Colin Mochrie, but I
wouldn't be able to pull off the hair. Anyway, I wanted to know if your
comedic talent just came naturally of if it was more practice than anything.
If you reply to this than I would be in heaven!
Natalie
Prepare for heaven. I guess I had a natural talent that I nurtured and
worked at.
Question from: annette
Question: mr. mochrie i live in a country where not all cities have cable
and internet connection so its safe to say that WLIIA is not a household
name here. my husband issachar and i were very fortunate to have come across
a clip of WLIIA in the net, and now you have 2 loyal fans in this corner of
asia. i have reason to believe that some comedy shows in our country are
lifting ideas from whose line (e.g. 3headed broadway star, props). how do
you feel about other actors imitating your show?
Annette
There is enough room in the world for all imitation. All the Whose Line
games are either variations or downright steals of games that have been
around forever. If I don't get mad at Brad Pitt taking my stuff I can' t get
mad at anyone.
Question from: Jenn from Winnipeg, Manitoba
Question: Hi, Colin. I've noticed that different improv. artists have
different techniques for dealing with sudden fits of laughter. Some people
remove themselves from the scene and let themselves calm down, while others
try to keep going through the giggles. In your opinion, what is the best
method for dealing with laughter while performing?
I apologize for the length of this note, thank you for taking the time to
read it.
Have a great day. :)
Jenn
I try to forge ahead and try to get back to making narrative of the story
clear. I have also been fortunate in never working with someone that I
thought was funny.
Question from: Melissa from Rhode Island
Question: Hey Colin, just wanted to say thanks for all the laughs, and to
ask you a question or two. Do ryan and the others tease you as much offstage
as they do onstage? When people recognize you on the street and say "hi" do
they expect you to say something funny back to them? Finally, as a fellow
Monty Python fan, I have to ask: Eric Idle or Graham Chapman?
Melissa
Yes those bastards tease me as much. And people do expect me to say
something funny to them. They often go away disappointed. Your Monty Python
question is tough but I have to lean slightly towards Eric Idle.
Question from: Laura from Atlanta
Question: So, Colin . . . what's your porn star name? ;-) Take the Name
of Your Childhood Pet (as your first name) and the Name of the Street You
Grew Up ON (as your last name) . . . and that's your Porn Star Name.
It's not listed on your site. CMWeb seems to know all . . . except your
Porn Star Name. ;-) Your site will be complete . . . once she can add
that.
Laura aka "Bodo Forrest"
Laura
Oddly enough it's Dickie Bigpenis.
Question from: Katie from Virginia
Question: Hey Colin, I'm a huge fan and I catch reruns of Whose Line every
night. My question is, what were the major differences between doing to
first version of the show (the version with Clive Anderson) and the second
American version of the show? Did you guys worry that the show might not
catch on to the American audience?
Katie
The performing of the show was the same the only difference being what ended
up onscreen .Britain never censored. Putting a show on American television
is always a crap shoot because you can't control what the myriad of
executives, producers and the like what to force on you. Also the wrong time
slot can kill you i.e. up against Friends and Survivor. We hoped.
Question from: Lee H. from Connecticut
Question: Dear Colin:
What have you been up to professionally when you are not touring with Brad?
Also, if there ever is a Whose Line revival, in what capacity would you like
to appear: regular performer, guest (occassional episode appearances)
performer, or host?
Thanks for all the laughter!
Lee
I shot a movie (Yellow Woman) in Montreal and am working on getting a Tv
show going here in Canada. If Whose Line came back I think it should be just
me in every capacity.
Question From: Johanna V. from Sweden
Question: Hello mr. Mochrie.
I have just recently seen some episodes of Whose line and I was amazed about
how you are on stage. And by reading the questions I understand I'm not the
only one. I don't know so much about you and what you have done besides
Whose line, but I get the impression that you are quite famous. And my
question is if there is something that you feel is the downside by being
famous?
I hope that you understand me, my english is not perfect.
Thank yor for your time and I hope that you will live a long and healthy
life!
//Johanna
Johanna
The downside is that you lose a bit of your privacy. An outing with the
family can sometimes be a nightmare with the constant attention. That said,
it's a small price to pay for all the upsides.
Question from: Elias from Lebanon
Question: Hi Colin! You & Ryan are the best comedians! Huge WLiiA fan! I'm
unlucky in the fact I might never get the chance to see your work live since
I live in Lebanon; I know it's very unlikely but would you ever consider
coming to Beirut along with the Improv All-Stars and do a show here? It
would be great, especially after the tough year we faced.
You're the only one who can crack up Ryan. Did he ever crack u up? Thanks
for the laughs
Elias
Ryan cracks me up when he hurts himself on stage. That is some funny stuff.
Otherwise no.
Question from: Rebekah from Lexington, Kentucky
Question: Did you ever have an imaginary friend when you were younger? If
so, please tell me about him/her, I would listen (or read, actually) very
attentively if you could be so kind.
Rebekah
ummm..okay. I never had an imaginary friend when I was young. I do have Brad
Sherwood now.
Question from: Amy from Ontario
Question: I saw on myspace that you have Buffy, Angel and Firefly listed as
favourites - which excites me, as Whedon is indeed awesome. Do you have any
particular favourite episodes/moments from those shows? And if you could
have guested on any of the series, who would you have liked to be and why?
Amy
The musical episode and "Hush" are my favorite Buffy's. The Angel episode
where he turns into a Muppet is fun and all of the Firefly episodes. I would
have loved to have been a funny vampire on Buffy.
Question from: Ruthie from Pennsylvania
Question: Your the greatest!...and the funniest.. also best looking! I want
to take a trip to Vancouver. Does everyone speak French there? I'm a
little nervous about that. By the way, as long as there is hair on your
head, you're not bald!!! Stay adorable. I love you!!!!
Ruthie
No problem. People don't speak French in Vancouver. You should be fine.
Question from: Ben H. from Detroit, MI
Question: Colin, do you like pie?
Ben
Yes.
Question from: Daniela from Los Angeles, California
Question: Colin Mochrie, I dont want to sound like every other person on
here (I'd prefer to win you over with my sharp wit and charming personality)
(HA) but I really, really love your work. My silly, girlish dream is to be
on an improvisational t.v. show (I am a theatre major, and improv is a
gigantic part of my life), what did you learn/wish you could have done
differently before you got on whose line? Thank you infinitely, oh, and my
friend and I have decided that your ability to make anyone laugh no matter
what, has made you a God Amongst Men. It is two in the morning, and we are
watching Whose Line reruns. Thanks again! Sincerely, Daniela
Daniela
I would have not put as much pressure on myself as I did on my first Whose
Line. I had forgotten it was supposed to be fun.
Question from: Adam from NY
Question: Hello to Colin!! I just saw you on an episode of Goosebumps called "Bad Hare Day" where you played that usher for about 3 seconds screen time!! Although your only line was "Hey Kid, the exit is
down that way".., you were not credited!! Why weren't you credited in that episode?? Oh yeah, Whose Line will always be a great pick-me-up show!!
Adam
I did it as a favour for a friend.I am still waiting to be paid.

Question from: Q
Question: Hey Colin. I was wondering what your advice is to someone who wants to make a career out of comedy. Obviously the first step is to do it as much as you can, learn a lot and get really good, but how do you take comedy from a talent/passion to a career? Is your best bet to be on tv or in a movie?
Q
To be completely honest with you, I have no idea. I don't think there is one proven way to make it. My way was a stubborn refusal to quit the business till everyone one else quit or died. That worked for me. Being on television or movies is certainly great exposure, but the down side is that your comedy then has ten other people editing it, directing it etc and usually by people with no sense of humour. We were lucky on Whose Line because we were creating it on the spot so no one else could tamper with it. We succeeded or failed on our on merit. So all I can say is do it
wherever and whenever you can and who knows?
Question from: Mafalda from Portugal
Question: Hi Colin. I just became familiar with your work and it actually made me question what I wanted to do with my life . Which , err...means I like what you do. You don't make me want to kill little white mice or anything.
My question is simple: did you ever stop to think before you got into this? What I mean is, was there ever a moment where you thought "Ok, I got a laugh. Maybe two...but could I actually do this every day? Am I as funny as <insert famous comedian here".
Wishing you the best and hoping to hear from you soon,
Mafalda
Mafalda,
No I never stopped to think about this. If I thought about it I wouldn't have done it. I was young and naive enough to think it would work out. Luckily it did.
Question from: Jonny from the UK
Question: Hello Colin!!!!!!
What did you think of Greg Proops when you first met him? He seems like such a nice man, despite his snarky persona. The two of you seem to be such polar opposites in personality, but it's obvious that you guys are very close friends . . . so what was that first meeting like?
Cheers!
Jonny
I don't actually recall our first meeting. I think it was during the New York tapings of the British WLiiA. Greg is a total sweetheart and always fun to be around. He doesn't make as many bald jokes as the other guys.
Question from: Tjeerd E. from Aarle-Rixtel, The Netherlands
Question: Dear Mr. Mochrie,
As you can see, I'm not from America. Here in the Netherlands, we don't have Whose Line. We have a program that's based on Whose Line (It's called 'De Lama's'), but, while it's a fun show, it's just not the same as Whose Line. Have you ever seen it, and would you consider appearing as a guest in the Dutch version of Whose Line, or at least make the creators of 'De Lama's' (they have some sort of connection with the creators of the British and American show)show reruns of Whose Line is it Anyway? Me and my friends are dying for more Mochrie/Stiles-action. It's been years since the last episode aired here in the Netherlands, and a lot of my fellow Dutchies need to know where 'De Lama's' comes from! 'De Lama's' is one of the, if not the most popular shows in the Netherlands right now, so it wouldn't be a bad idea. Help the Dutch out, give us some Captain Hair! How are we going to get more Mochrie-action?
Alvast bedankt voor uw antwoord!
Tjeerd,
I have always been a big fan of the Dutch and would love to appear on Dutch television. Is language a problem? If you want some Mochrie
-Stiles action you should check out our screen test for Brokeback Mountain.
Question from: Dee from New York
Question: It seems like Brad Sherwood has gained weight. What do you two eat when on tour together?
I try to stay with seafood and healthy choices. Brad eats people who think he has gained weight.
Question from: Quay W. from Senatobia, MS
Question: As a fan of harmless practical jokes (Dad was a fireman, so I guess it's in the genes.), I was wondering what favorite practical jokes you've pulled and what were pulled on you.
Thanks for the laughs !
Quay
I don't really do practical jokes except for the one where I tour and tell audiences that I work with a funny partner. You should see their faces when Brad walks on. Priceless!
Question from: Christa from Manitoba, Canada
Question: Colin,
During a game of Greatest Hits 'Songs of the Motorcycle', I am really curious what crossed your mind when you said, "We're watching animal porn!" I must say, it wasn't what I was expecting, and you sure made everybody laugh. Even you laughed and you are rarely caught laughing at your own jokes. Was it out of embarressment? Kinda curious WHY you said what you did.
Christa
I have seen the scene and I couldn't really tell you what i was thinking. I think I expected Ryan to do his "We be right back to...." and when he didn't I panicked.
Question from: Melissa from Massachusetts
Question: Hey Colin! My question is this: Comedy is one of the most difficult areas of performing, because it appeals to so many different tastes. Do you ever get discouraged by people who don't find your style of comedy funny? Also a lot of people have asked for advice on how to be a good improviser, but it seems like what you do on Whose Line, and with Brad, is just quick-wit and natural talent. Is it even possible to teach someone how to be naturally funny?
Melissa,
Of course having an ego it flabbergasts me when people don't find me funny. Then again, sense of humour is so personal it's a wonder that as many people as there are do find me amusing.
I don't think you can teach someone to be naturally funny, but you can teach someone to be funnier, i.e. Brad Sherwood.
Question from: Ruthie from Pennsylvania
Question: Hi, Colin! I am a mother of five and at the end of the night I always watch your show. It takes a lot to make me laugh, but you've achieved that goal. This makes me your number one fan. Do the hoedowns make you nervous? I think that would be my downfall, but I am very good at adlib and was voted coolest Mom. As a matter of fact, I'm called Mama Colin!
Ruthie
Hoedowns don't make me nervous per se, I just hate doing them.
Congrats on you Coolest Mom title, do you now go to the nationals?
Question from: Brandy from Tulsa, Oklahoma
Question: Have you ever had the opportunity to see a Deaf Improv Team preform? Take care and thanks for answering the question.
Brandy
No I have not. On Whose Line I saw a lot of Comedy Impaired actors perform though.
Question from: Laura from Atlanta
Question: So . . . according to a number of the articles on your and Deb's early years together, Kraft dinners seem to have been a main meal for you guys.
Things are better now obviously . . . but do you ever have Kraft dinners? Just for old times sake? Satisfy old cravings?
Laura
My son is a big fan of Kraft dinners so i usually have a taste when I make it for him but no I never make one for old times sake.
Question from: Artemis F.
Question: 'Ello Colin!
Do you ever, or always, just skip over the "Hi Colin! I love you!"s that people put before their questions? I mean, you must've read about a thousand different ways of how we all adore you- do you really force yourself to read all of them? By the way, I adore you.
Artemis
It is such a chore to read how much people adore you. It takes up half my day and there's never any pictures.
Question from: Chrissie from London, UK
Question: Hello Darling Colin,
Hope you are well. Just wondered if you miss your time on the UK shows (We Miss You!!!), and whether you ever keep in touch with Clive??
Chrissie
I do miss my time on the UK show. I especially miss the people who became dear friends, i.e. Jim Sweeney, Richard Vranch, Steve Steen, Stephen Frost.
Sadly the only way I keep in touch with Clive is through a "say hello" when I know Greg is going there.
Question from: Sean from Waterloo, ON
Question: Colin,
I've come to see three of your shows with Brad and will be seeing you again when you're back in Kitchener in September. You guys are hilarious! But my question is, will the improv all-stars be touring again? The funniest night of my life is still the performance in Hamilton, ON when you made fun of me in the audience for laughing so hard long after everyone else had stopped. I hope you guys will all tour together again soon!
Sean
I don't know what is happening with the All Stars. Everyone has gotten so busy it is hard to schedule anything.
Question from: Peri from Maine
Question: My question was: What was it like being on The Outer Limits? My sister and I both thought you did an amazing job, particularly at the more dramatic parts.
Also, have you been on any other sci-fi shows?
Peri
The Outer Limits was a ball. McKenzie Phillips was a doll and a big fan of Whose Line so we had a great time. The only other sci-fi show I was on was Whose Line.
Question from: Ivy from New York
Question: What would you do for a Klondike bar?
Ivy
For a Klondike bar I would put in heaters and offer prospectors drinks at reduced prices.
Question from: Katie from BC
Question: I just ordered the "Getting Along Famously" dvds. I haven't seen the show yet, but I have a special place in my heart for shows that are brilliant (with top comedic talent, how could it not be?) but canceled. Quick question about your fetching hairstyle: plugs, wigs, painted on, or act of God? You don't have to answer that. But if you don't have any plans to perform anytime soon in BC - change your plans! My pesky graduation ceremony got in the way last time. Toodles.
Katie
The hair was a wig. we are trying to get to BC so please don't graduate anymore.
Question from: Stephanie C. from New York
Question: Hey Colin ^_^
You are a very, very hilarious person, and I think it's very sweet how you seem to get along with everyone on Whose Line. But anyway, if you were to ever stay in New York city, do you think you could be a guest on "Late Night with Conan O' Brien"? The two of you are the funniest men in the world, and seeing you two on the same screen would probably send me in hyterics. I think you two would have great chemistry, because you both have a quirky sense of humor. Or are talk shows not your thing?
Stephanie
I love Conan but I am not at my best on talk shows. I am quite boring and would actually just prefer listening to other people talk.

Question From: SEB from Florida
Question: Hi Colin! I have a few questions, the first one regarding Deb's allergy to seafood. I love seafood and it is hard for me to imagine anyone having to go their entire life without eating any, which leads me to my first question. Do you totally abstain from eating fish in deference to Deb's allergy? Just wondering. My second question is something of a wild card question. Because interviewers tend to ask a lot of the same questions over and over, I always wonder if celebrities don't have their own list of questions (with great answers) they wish someone would ask them just once. Do you have a Q&A that no one has thought to ask, but would be great to share?
Hey Seb
I eat fish when we go out for dinner somewhere and every once in a while I'll cook it when we have a barbeque but otherwise it's just easier if I concentrate on making one meal that everyone can eat. As to your second question, off the top of my head I can't think of anything that I haven't been asked that I would love to answer. Maybe my theory on how Brad gets by on such little talent.
Question from: Ashley "Blondieo" M.
Question: First of all, I wanted to thank you and Brad for rocking at
Kalamazoo. I had a great time, and thank you for signing my shirt. So here is my question. What, to you, makes a person into a legend? Also, do you consider yourself a legend? Thanks again and enjoy the rest of the year.
Hey Blondio
For me a legend is someone who has changed the face of their chosen field and had played at a consistently high level for a long time. People like Elvis, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Cary Grant, John Wayne. Someone who, when their name is mentioned, you have clear image of who and what they were.
and no, I'm no legend.
Question From: Angela from Atlanta, Georgia
Question: Hi Colin! First of all, I just wanted to say that I'm a big fan and love everything that you're in. Okay, my question: I am getting ready to go to college in a year. My dad just recently went back to school and has decided that everyone (especially me) needs to stay in school and get their Masters degree before they go out into the "real world." I want to act, so I'm not sure if I should stay in school for a longer time to be respectful of my father's wishes or if it would be best to get out and try to get theatre/film work as soon as possible. Do you think it's worth it to stay in school for a long time if I want to act? Thanks for all of your help!
Hey Angela,
This is a tough question. As a parent, I try to do what's best for my child while remaining open enough to weigh his wishes and needs. There is nothing wrong with staying in school and getting a Masters. Having something that you could fall back on when the acting work is scarce ( i.e. teaching) is always a good idea. A good education is invaluable for an actor because the more you know the more you can apply to your work. The only advice I can give you is play it by ear.
Question From: Lauren S. from International Falls, Minnesota
Question: Hey Colin!! You are one of a kind!! My question is are you a baseball fan? And if so, which team do you support the most? Thanks Colin! (Go Twins and White Sox!)
Lauren
I am more of a hockey fan. I usually only watch the World Series. Of course living in Toronto I have to support the Jays.
Question from: Erica
Question: Hey Colin. I have a couple of questions. Well, I'm 13 yrs. old, and I just recently became a vegetarian. But when I told my parents, they didn't seem to think that it was a good idea. And I was wondering what are your views on teen vegetarians (or vegetarians in general), and what would your reaction be if Luke told you that he was a vegetarian? Would you support him, or would you try and get him to change his mind? Thanks for taking the time to answer this.
p.s.
I watch Whose Line all the time, and you and Ryan are my all time favorites!!! Thanks for all the laughs.
Erica
I have no problem with vegetarianism. As long as you are eating healthy and getting protein, you are free to do what you want. Of course I'm not your parents. Brad has recently stopped eating meat and he says he feels a lot healthier. Of course he also worships Satan.
Question from: Amanda from Oswego, NY
Question: Hey Colin! Just a random question for you. Have you had any premonitions/dreams (good or bad) about shows you've done before or after they've happened?
Thanks for all the laughs over the years, and kudos to you for guessing Canajoharie on the first try!
Amanda,
I once had a dream where I was working onstage with a hack comedian whose idea of funny was making bald jokes. When I woke up I was in the middle of a moving bodies scene with Brad. Nightmare!
Question from: Meaghan from New York!
Question: h'okay, if you could do ONE thing different in your life, what would it be?
Meaghan
If I could do one thing different it would be my high school years. I wasted so much time worrying about what people thought about me and not being cool. I should have spent more time celebrating my individuality. High school is not a barometer as to what your life will be.
Question from: Michael and Bo from Orlando, Florida
Question: Ok, I knew this guy that walked into a bar and said "Ouch". What would YOU do if you walked into a bar? By the way, excellent work on delivering the laughs for so many years, and I heard you paid professionals to answer these things...is that true? :)
Micheal and Bo
Ummm....please stay on your medication.
Question from: Ryan from Peabody
Question: Yo. Colin! I have three Questions. One. Do you know Weird Al? Two. Have you ever wanted to work with the Muppets?
And three, did you really like the Colin vs Jesus flash videos?
Ryan
I have met Weird Al who is very nice. I have wanted to work with the Muppets. the closest I have gotten is doing Hollywood Squares with Kermit, who did an impression of me. I did enjoy me vs. Jesus. I'm so glad I won.
Question from: Elise from Pasadena, CA
Question: I'm so excited- I see that you're doing a show near me soon(like, sometime-next-year-soon), and I hope I can get enough money to go to it, and get good seats!
Anyways, question. I get the hints that you guys used to go drinking after the shows- whats your funniest story from those escapades?
Elise
There are no funny stories from those episodes. Only pathetic scenarios where Brad would drunkenly tell me how much he loved me and then would do a play by play of the show we had just performed, stopping only to point out his genius. need a drink just thinking about it.
Question from: Clay
Question: Everyone always asks you about Ryan, which I'm sure you're sick of. But I'm going to be just as annoying and ask about Greg. *smirks* I hear that you two are really good friends, and I find that interesting because you seem to have such different personalities. So, are you two as close as I've been led to believe? Also, do you consider Brad a good friend, or is he just a coworker? (And have you ever kissed him? ^_~)
Clay
Greg and I aren't as different as you may think. We both have a love for movies and have spent many hours talking about obscure character actors of the 30's and 40's. we always have a great time whenever we see each other which unfortunately is rare because of our schedules. Brad is a mediocre friend who I have kissed just to get a laugh.
Question from: Kara from SC
Question: Hello Mr. Mochrie. Thank you, first of all, for bringing so much joy into my life and the lives of so many others. As a fellow Monty Python/ John Cleese fan, do you have a favorite obscure "Flying Circus" sketch, or "Fawlty Towers" episode? One that no matter how many times you see it, it makes you double over in laughter? Do you ever watch "The Good Life" aka "Good Neighbors?"
I hope you and your family are well.
Kara
I always enjoy the Argument Sketch and the Cheese Shop fron Monty Python. The Germans and the Hotel Inspectors are my favourite Fawlty episodes. I don't think I have seen The Good Life.
Question from: Laura
Question: Hi Colin! Thanks for taking time to answer these for us! My two part question for you is this: Do you ever attend the shows at Second City in Toronto? And do you ever run into old castmates from shows you were in, or directed?
Hi Laura
I do attend Second City when I can. I always see old castmates from time to time. Patrick McKenna from the Red Green show is one of my best friends. And as for people I have directed, I just spent a day with Bob Martin who is currently starring in The Drowsy Chaperone on BroadWay.
Question from: JoJo from Bethesda
Question: I read that you had to dress up as a chicken for a fast food restaurant when you were a kid. did you at least get some free chicken out of the deal?
JoJo
No.
Question from: L B from Atlanta, GA
Question: When I was stationed in England in the Air Force, I used to watch WL. It took a lot of the sting out of being so far from home - many thanks. Saw a few other great shows there, and was wondering if you like Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge series (any of them).
LB
I am a big fan of Steve Coogan. His series are starting to come out in DVD here so I am a happy boy.
Question from: Tim Mochrie from Australia
Question: Hi Colin, tis great to see the Mochrie name making it big in the world of comedy, so Congrats. We have our very own Mochrie star/actor here in Oz. Peter is his name, but he aint funny. I should know he's my brother :) . Anyway, do you know of any distant relatives here or anywhere else in the world ?. Perhaps even our clan ?
Hey tim
I don't know of other relatives. There is a Dottie Mochrie who is a golfer of some note but I don't know if she's related or not.
Question from: Q
Question: whose work would you say has affected you more--Del Close, Viola Spolin or Keith Johnstone?
Q
Probably Keith just because I took workshops from him.
Question from: Jim O. from Atlanta, GA
Question: Did Colin have a bit part in the movie Jaws? I saw a person in one scene that looked like him and was just wondering.
Thanks,
PS, Love "Whose Line"
Jim
I was not in Jaws. I was however in Paws about a demented corgi.

From: Leslie from Fort Myers, FL
Question: First of all, my son still talks about getting up on stage with you guys this past march (Tony, AKA Ritalin boy) thanks for being so cool with him, he thinks the world of you two! My question is have you tried any of the recipies in the cookbooks that I gave to you?
Leslie
Say hi to Tony. I haven’t been home long enough to try anything but I have time off coming up and will cook away.
From: zach g. from toronto ontario
Question: hey colin!!! first off you have definatly influenced me alot to become a better individual in life through your work, so thankyou very much. My question is that what do you think of today's comedy movies? Such as the American Pie series or The 40 Year Old Virgin? Thankx!!!
Zach
I haven’t seen the American Pie movies but I enjoyed the 40 year old Virgin very much. In my opinion a lot of the comedies today are very lazily written with crassness substituting wit. I may just be bitter.
From: Kelly from Knoxville, TN
Question: Hey Colin! First of all "the cat!" Mission Improbable is my favorite memory of you, followed closely by Green Screen when clips of you were behind you. (I still can't believe you said "It all started with a badly-timed bald joke!" and I loved your face when you figured out what was going on!) But I digress! My question is from time to time between the games when you all would return to seats to await the next round of hilarity, you all would make comments to each other that seemed like inside jokes between you. How often did inside jokes make it on the air? Or were these just random comments that were so bizarre they went over my head? I look forward to reading your response and I wish you luck in all you do and all your future endeavors!
Kelly
To tell you the truth we were so drunk during the tapings that I can’t remember what we said.
From: Matt R. from Rutland, Vermont
Question: Where do you get your puns? You have some of the best, but all the other great ones I've come across come from novelists like Piers Anthony and Spider Robinson. You seem to be making them up spontaneously.
Matt
Some are stored in the junk drawer I call my brain, others I make up. I love puns.
From: spencer from utah
Question: Colin, first off, please let me apologize for having sent you so many questions that got rejected for one reason or another. Yes, they were probably filtered before they got to you. (Thank goodness!) But I have a feeling that this one might be it! This one might be the golden question! My quivering fingers can barely type their description in glorious anticipation of it! ...Now let me just try and think of one...... It must be original...... It must be interesting...... Ah, hell! It probably won't be any of those things. But here goes... Colin, what is the meaning of life? And now seriously, really, why is life worth living? And do you believe in an after-life? How about a before-life?
You're the best improvisationalist ever, Colin! ;)
Spencer
For me my wife, son, friends and job make this a life worth living. I do believe in an afterlife but not aftershave.
From: Richie from Georgia
Question: Hail to the King of Randomness! "Tapioca!"
From what I've noticed, Improvisation seems to be more of an acting style rather than a comedic device. I first saw the original Whose Line Is It Anyway a long time ago on Comedy Central and found it to be a refreshing new style of show that I really enjoyed. In school I had to read "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," and noticed some of the speaking exercises the two main characters did were very similar to the games that were on the show. From there, I understood why the original host was so strict with some of the games, such as Questions Only (Btw, Drew Carey let the cast get away with too much Rhetoric and Repetitive questions). The question I want to ask is about trying to out talk another person (I forget what the term is called). In many scenes and situations, one actor is trying to talk more than the others or feeding each other lines, leaving the others no choice but to simply respond. Is it frustrating at times when a fellow cast member is stealing the scene too much and/or feeding you too many lines without giving you a chance to perform? Do you practice exercises to give you an edge in those situations?
Richie
It is frustrating when the scene becomes about one performer especially when the one performer isn’t me.
I tend to retreat a little and try to find physical ways to steal focus. Luckily I haven’t had to deal with that too often
From: dawn s. from newcastle england
Question: Hi Colin
I read that you realy like anything with Paul Merton in it, Well i was wondering why you have not been on Have i got news for you? I think you would be realy good also do you still speak to paul from your days on WLIIA. Also are you coming back to England maybe for a tour?
Many Thanks
Dawn
I haven’t been on the show cause no one has asked me. That tends to limit my appearances. I haven’t seen Paul in years but always send my good wishes when Mr Proops heads over there. I would love to tour England, which is one of my favourite places.
From: Teesha from Edison, New Jersey
Question: I must say, you are quite the comedian Colin. One of my favorites actually. July 8th in Atlantic City was hysterical and I am looking forward to seeing you again in Trenton in October. Although I have to say I am curious. Does Ryan Stiles or Drew Carry still become interested in traveling with you guys at all? I ask because Greg Props was there that night and I know what you and Brad do is well... the Brad and Colin show!
Teesha
Ryan doesn’t fly so that makes touring with him difficult. If we are in his neck of the woods we would always ask him to join us. Drew was in Germany for the World Cup and would have joined us in Atlantic City if he could. We have an open invitation for the gang to join us, we just haven’t told them about it.
From: Katrina from England
Question: Hi Colin,
Ryan looks like the kind of guy that could sort you out with just one call to his mafia buddies if you made him mad.
Is that why you let him make so many jokes about you?
Katrina
I let him make so many jokes about me because the poor guy has nothing else.
From: Sara from Montreal, Canada
Question: I tried your chili-rubbed chicken recipe and my parents started worshiping me after they ate some (I didn't know your recipe had magical powers). I was wondering what some of your favourite recipes were?
That recipe is one of my favourites as well as a chicken leek linguini dish. My turkey dinner is my all time favourite.
From: Katie from Ann Arbor
Question: I saw you and Brad perform in A2 recently, and I have a question regarding the "Quick Change" game where you gave those kids the squeaky horns and they wouldn't stop honking them - do you always give them to small children and if so, are they usually so pernicious?
Katie
We do always give them to small kids and the results vary. Sometimes they are pernicious but most are American.
From: Ed & Regina from Maryland
Question: Colin, we drove up to Atlantic City to see you, Brad and Greg at Caesar's when the casinos were down because of the NJ government issues. We didn't care - we came to see you guys - but a lot of folks were really bitchy about it. That got us to wonder if you like to partake of the games of chance when you are between shows at casino locations. Do you?
Ed and Regina
I do like to partake in games of chance. The most dangerous of which is An Evening with Colin and the other guy.
From: Nick from New Jersey
Question: Colin,
Of all the Whose Line cast members, which one do you find yourself most identifiable with? Not necessarily which one works best with you, but which one has the most in common with you or the most similar personality?
Thanks
Nick from NJ
Nick
Of all the whose line guys I identify with Colin Mochrie the most. All of them have something that we bond on. Brad is probably has the most in common with me, we are both left handed Sagittarians, who wanted to be marine biologists who are with vivacious women. The only difference in our lives is that he works with a kind, generous, modest, low maintenance comedy genius and I work with him.

Question from: Louis B. from Scranton, PA
Question: Hi, Colin. Here's my question: were there ever times on Whose Line where you just got so fed up with everything that you just wanted to quit?
Hey Louis,
No, there was never really anything to get fed up with. The show was always fun to do, everyone there were good friends so if anything I didn’t want it to end.
Question from: Clinton from Bedford,IN
Question: Hey Colin first of all I think you are one of the funniest people alive and my question is i heard you like stephan king and i was wondering if you have ever read the dark tower series im on book four. thanks for your time.
Hey Clinton
Yes I have read the dark tower series. Loved it especially the twist at the end where you find out Roland is really Clive Anderson…oh sorry.
Question from: Natalie C. from Salt Lake City, Utah
Question: Colin,
when you talked about your favorite authors you mentioned Stephan Fry do you like Jeeves And Wooster or A Little Bit Of Fry And Laurie??
Natalie
Yes both of those men are incredibly talented and I have enjoyed all of their endeavors. Being able to work with Stephen on Whose Line was a real treat.
Question from: Sheyla from Puerto Rico
Question: Hi Colin,
Ryan lost it many times during a scene because you made him laugh so much, as well as Drew Carey, who is someone that has a very distinctive laugh and looks like he is about to have a heart attack when doing so :-) . How does it make you feel when you're able to make professionals like them and totally lose it. I bet you get a big kick out of it ;-) . By the way,I don't know about you but I love watching Drew laugh because his laughter is contagious. Thanks in advance and take care.
Sheyla
I love it when I can make professionals totally lose it. I also enjoyed making Ryan and Drew lose it. Just be careful if you meet Drew, his laugh isn’t the only contagious thing about him.
Question from: Charisma from South Australia
Question: Hi Colin! I adore the story of how you met your wife. I was wondering, do you have a clear memory of that first interview with her? I love hearing about first impressions and conversations, and how or if they relate to relationships years later.
Cheers for guaranteeing me a good laugh every day of the week!
Charisma
I actually saw Deb on stage about five years before we met and I got a little crush on her. I was glad that when we did finally meet that she was as giving and nice as she seemed onstage. That’s not always the case. (See Brad Sherwood)
Question from: Katie from Windsor ,UK
Question: Hi Colin,
First of all, I'd just like to say I love Who's line, you and Ryan are my favorite! My question is, did you enjoy your time in the UK and do you ever think about doing a comedy tour here? Thanks!
Katie
I love the U.K. I still have family and friends there. Deb may be doing the Edinburgh Festival with Women Fully Clothed so I hope to go with her. As for a tour there are no plans right now but you never know.
Question From: Devin from Bowmanville, Ontario
Question: Hey Colin. I have noticed that you seem to be a Barenaked Ladies fan, as am I. I was just wondering what your favourite song of their's is. Also, have you seen them in concert? they are great. Thanks for constantly making me laugh!
Devin
I have seen them in concert and it is worth the price of admission. My favourite song of their's isn’t one of their biggest hits. The Night I Fell Asleep at The Wheel.
Question from: Meaghan from New York!
Question: Um, Whats it like always moving around, and do as much people ask for your autograph as opposed to 5 years ago?
(P.S. I'm the kid from November 12, who had the keyshain backback, and wished you a happy birthday and you called me a stalker and....I mean......uh........DO you remember me?)
Meaghan
I do remember you. Moving around has it’s advantages. If you stay in one position too long people think you’re dead and try to bury you.
Question from: Val from Massachusetts
Question: Hi Colin! :) I know you've been friends with Ryan for about twenty years now... I was just wondering how the two of you met? Did you get this whole cosmic meant-to-be feeling afterwards? *grins* I'd like to know, if you can remember that far back, that is! :)
Val
I was doing Theatresports in Vancouver and my friend Jim was hired by the comedy club where Ryan was working to start an improv troupe.
Jim introduced us thinking that we had a lot in common. Jim is an idiot.
I enjoyed working with Ryan but never thought it would lead to me giving him a major career.
Question from: Josh C. from Salt Lake City, UT
Question: Colin, I've been working here at my job all day, and it's so tedious that I could go nuts! Do you know anything simple I can do for excitement, or make my boss laugh perhaps? Thanks a million.
Josh
Nothing is funnier than an employee with no pants. Trust me.
Question from: Natalia from Imperial
Question: Why is everyone asking you questions about Ryan??? It's YOUR site, mate! And why don't people appreciate baldness? Bald is beautiful!!!! Mate, call me sometime, we should get together.
nat
Nat
You’re right! Who cares about Ryan. Let him answer his own questions! As to the baldness thing I know the Whose Line guys appreciate it otherwise they would have had absolutely no material.
Question from: Ashley "Blondieo" M.
Question: First of all, I wanted to thank you and Brad for an incredible show in Wabash. I had a great time. Also, thanks for autographing my drawing. That only makes me want to work harder on my drawing technique. Okay, now here's my questions. I noticed that at the shows I went to there was a lot of rock music. Did you and Brad make up the selection, or was it the theater's choice? Not that I'm complaining because I love rock music. Also, do you get asked to do certain types of "I Love The" series shows on VH1? The reason why I ask is because I think they are brilliant. Some of your commentary on the segemts for "I Love the 90s" made me laugh my ass off. Take care, and stay safe.
Ashley
Brad made the compilation tapes that we play before the show and during intermission. I have been asked to do the I Love The… series. It’s always fun. I hope you can reattach your ass.
Question from: Lauren from Int'l Falls, MN
Question: Hey Colin! I love turning on ABC Family and seeing you and the gang on! You guys really end the day on a great note for me!! So, hate to bug you, but I've got 2 questions:
#1: What is one movie you could watch over and over again? #2: Who is your fav. person on Monty Python's Flying Circus and why and what is your favourite skit? Ok, thats actually 3, sorry. Have a fantasmic summer and rock on!!!
Lauren
Two movies that I can watch over and over are Singing in the Rain and North by Northwest. My fav Python is John Cleese, I have stolen much of his stuff and my favorite skit is the Argument Scene. I like strawberries…I’m sorry that was 4 answers.
Question from: Anina C. from Karlsruhe, Germany
Question: Hey Colin,
Did you ever, from the time you pretty much decided to make improv your career, go through a time when you had a comedian-block? (much like a writer's block) That you just could not.. Think of the funny things to say or do that you used to? I used to be fun, outgoing; a comedian. But when people started demanding/expecting me to entertain them, and then ignoring me when I failed to, my whole personality seemed to be flipped upside down. Did something like this ever happen to you? A lonely, empty feeling, like a part of you was missing?
Anina
I hope I never have you trying to stop me from jumping off a building! Knock on wood, I have never had what you have described, probably because I ignore demands to be funny. I am also fortunate to be able to work with people who always inspire me…and Brad Sherwood.
Question from: Debra from Egg Harbor Township, NewJersey
Question: Colin you're a real sweety and my husband and we're big fans of yours. We just love to watch the reruns of Whose Line. I am wondering, knowing you're from Canada, what do you think of Americans?? Oh and by the the way, bald guys do make the best lovers(my hubby is bald)
Debra
I love Americans. Some of my best friends are American and so is Brad Sherwood. Without Americans standups all around the world would have no one to make fun of. Bald Americans are the best, tho bald Canadians are still the best lovers.

Question from: Gayle from Utah
Question: God bless you, Colin Mochrie!
How do you do it all? The tour with Brad, the Snack Fairy stuff, you're brilliant
show with Deb. Not to mention all of the stuff you do on the side.
Do you have a secret recipe for an energy drink or something? And if you do,
would you be willing to sell it? I could use some of that energy.
I love to watch you crack everyone on Whose Line up BTW. Particularly Ryan, I
know you derived great pleasure in making him lose it. Do you take that same
pleasure with Brad?
Is three questions too many?
Keep up the wonderful work, Colin!
Gayle
Gayle
I don’t know how to do it I just do. It helps when you love what
you are doing so it never seems like work. I take great pleasure in breaking
up my cast mates because they are so jaded and have seen everything so I feel
that I have really accomplished something.
Question from: Angie from London, England
Question: I'm a big fan and I love your shows! Have you and Brad
or the Improv Allstars ever thought about coming to my lonely
island? Please? Don't be lazy...
I would love to try improv (it looks hecka fun), whats the best
piece of advice you've ever been given regarding impov?
Angie
I would love to come back to England, so who knows. The best
advice regarding improv is do it as much as you can where ever
you can. It really is one of those things where you learn more
by doing than studying.
Question from: Katie from Illinois
Question: Hey i luv you! is canada a aweaome place to live? i
want to visit canada someday! and wat is it like to be famous?
snack happy!!! thanks Katie
Katie
Canada is a great place to live. Come up and see it sometime. Being famous
is like anything else, sometimes it’s great, sometimes it sucks.
But the positive outweighs the negative.
Question from: Ehren A from Sherwood Park, Alberta
Question: Mr. Mochrie everyone on this forum says the same thing.
Not saying that I don't want to say it too, but I won't say that
you are the greatist. Just want to get to know the real Colin,
Who Do You Hang Out With? Who is your best friend? To what do
you feel you owe your success? Is there anything you would change?
And please please... Keep having fun, because you do it so well.
Ehren
I hang out with my family at home and Brad on the road.My best friend
is Jim McLarty who lives in New Zealand. I wouldn’t have changed anything
because everything that happened led to this road I am traveling now. I owe
my success to hanging in till everyone else died or quit.
Question from: Laurel Roy from Massachusetts
Question: So what were you and Deb (your wife) really doing in
1964? I was doing wonderful things...like learning how to
walk and feed myself, playing with my toys like most two year
olds.
Laurel
I was doing the same thing except at 8 years old. Deb was 12 and getting
into music and acting.
Question from: Jen from Long Island,
New York
Question: Hi Colin!
I am a huge fan of yours and I watch and tape Whose Line?
regularly. I just saw you in Westbury on May 11th. Great
show! I met you after. I was the 13 year old girl with
her mom who asked you for a hug and gave you the home-made card
and gave you the Long Island postcard. Thanks!! :) I
am going to be doing stand-up for my youth ministry's talent show/open
mic night. I am trying to come up with a routine, but I am
having stand up routine creator's block. Can you help me? I
need tips as to what gets rid of the blockage. I don't have
a clue as to what I want to put in my routine. Thanks so much! <33
Jen
Iknow nothing about doing standup but from what I’ve seen
the best ones are the comics who have a definite point of view
on every subject you can think of. Putting a slightly skewed
version of your personal life always seems to work. Good luck.
Question from: Katie from Gaylord, Michigan
Question: Colin! Awesome show. I loved it.
Hm, in a foot race between you and Brad...who do you think would
win?
How about trivial pursuit?
Katie
In a foot race it depends on the distance. In a sprint I would
beat him In a marathon I would beat him by more. He would win in
Trivial Pursuit. The man knows more about nothing than I do.
Question from: Bryanne from Florida
Question: Dear Colin Mochrie
Thank you so much for signing and shipping an autograph for me
all the way from Canada! Its the first autograph I'd ever gotten and Im so
lucky it was from you! My question is how did you and Deb come up with the
idea for "Getting along Famously" ? And also did you ever go over
to Ryans house ? I heard he lives in liberachis ? Colin I hope whatever you
do in life that your successful and happy ! And one day I hope I get to meet
you to tell you thank you in person ..... I love you Colin
Bryanne
Deb and I have always been big fans of variety shows from the
60’s so it was logical jump to do a show based on
that concept. And yes I have been to Ryans “Liberace” house.
The pool with the piano key tiles has to be seen to be believed.
Question from: Avery from Oregon
Question: Colin,
Have you ever worn a kilt? And During "Moving People," does
it ever bother you to have complete strangers touching you so
much?
Avery
I have worn a kilt. Very liberating.
It does bother me when strangers touch me for free. I usually charge
5 bucks a touch.
Question from: Katie from CA
Question: Do you think that you can get away with more sometimes
because people think you're cute? (myself included)
Katie
Absolutely.
Question from: Amy
Question: What is it about dinosaurs that intrigues
you so? Why do you so associate yourself with them, to the point
you commented that ‘everyone has a dinosaur within them
wanting to get out’? Do you find it fun or freaky
that fans have come to associate it with you as well?
Hey Amy,
I hope this isn’t like someone that there is no Santa Claus
but I am not that intrigued by dinosaurs. Nothing against them but …come
on they’re extinct. It just came about from doing a dinosaur
impression and it just kind of stuck. And the impression was really
a tribute to Ray Harryhausen a pioneer in special effects and stop
motion. Now you know. If it helps, I really am bald.

Question from: Arta S from Virginia
Question: Hey Colin AKA The funniest guy on the planet!
I heard you acually made contact with Neil Cicierega (I'm on the Animutation
list), and I was wondering what you said to him and what he said to you + the
whole shindig.
Very happy if answered,
Arta Seyedian
Arta
We just talked a little about the animutations,he gave me a t-shirt and
I threatened to sue. Just your basic fan interaction.
Question from: Meghan from chesapeake,VA
Question: Hey Colin! You are so awesome!!My question for you is
where did you learn those awesome Dance Moves???
Meghan
I have had no formal training it’s just that all middle-aged, Scottish-Canadian
white guys have dancing in their genes.
Question from: Wes from Austin, TX
Question: Colin, in addition to your obvious talent for improv,
I have to compliment you on your taste in shirts. They fairly
shout 'casual yet imaginative' (yet are far more accessible than
Ryan's ties and shoes). My favorite is the yellow/gold guayabera
with red Aztec-type trim that you wore for Whose Line's 100th
show. May I inquire as to where you procure such finery?
Wes
You sound like you swallowed a dictionary. All the shirts were supplied
by the costume department on the show. I just couldn’t say No!
Question from: amy from virginia
Question: I actually hace several questions. Have you ever or
will you ever let your son watch anything that you have done or
been in? Like Whose Line? and Totally Blonde? Does your wife like
to watch Whose Line, if she has time?
Amy
My son is a big fan of whose line and watches everything Deb and I are
in. He’s our biggest fan. Deb also watches Whose Line just to keep tabs
on who I’m kissing.
Question from: Lisette from Washington state
Question: Hello Colin! Thanks for taking time from your busy
schedule to answer us, your adoring legions! Also wanted to say
thanks for all the laughs - you make any day better! So here is
my question if ABC/Warner Bros. or whoever wanted to revive Whose
Line would you be interested in doing it again? I really hope
to see you more on American TV! Curses on American sattilite company
not offering Canadian TV!
Lisette
I would always be interested in doing Whose Line. Networks aren’t
really interested in shows starring old guys.
Question from: Chantelle from Davis, CA
Question: Hey Colin! I'm at UBC for a semester so I'm hoping
to catch a show in Vancouver. You came to my school in California
in mid-2005 and I couldn't go. But, out of all the places you
have traveled, what has been the most memorable? What are your
thoughts on the Olympics coming to Vancouver? Are you planning
to try out for the hockey team? That would be awesome.
Chantelle
Abu Dhabi was very interesting.I did a show there with Tony Slattery,
Jim Sweeney, Stephen Frost and Richard Vranch. It’s great the Olympics
are coming to my home town, I’m hoping to catch some of the events. And
yes I am trying out for the hockey team as mascot.
Question from: Laura
Question: Colin, I read on your website that Wayne Brady appeared
on your new show, GETTING ALONG FAMOUSLY. How was it to
work again with Wayne? You are now the Producer and Writer, his "boss" --
did you just find times you wanted to play Improv games instead
of sticking to the script?
Laura
It was great that Wayne made time out of his busy schedule to fit us
in and we had a blast. We just stuck to the script and had no compulsion to
improvise.
Question from: Fei from Auckland, New Zealand
Question: Hi Colin, I've been following wliia since the mid-90s,
and have always enjoyed the show's unique brand of humour immensely
. I've read somewhere that one of your best friends Jim
lives in New Zealand, does he still live here now? Have
you ever been down for a visit? It's a beautiful country
desparately in need of some brilliant improvisers, ever thought
about coming here to do a show sometime? Anyway all the
best for 2006, and have a fantastic Christmas and New Year!
Fei
My best friend does still live in New Zealand and I am trying
to find time to get down there. I have always wanted to go to
New Zealand and have heard nothing but glowing praise.
Question from: Roxanne from Alabama
Question: Before I ask my question, just let me say I think it
was very smart of a sexy hunk of man like you to showcase himself
with all those other less attractive men on Whose Line. My question
is did you ever think you would grow up to be the 'Snack Fairy'
and is getting all the snacks you want part of the job description?
Roxanne
I like you! Do you think anyone ever dreams of growing up to be the Snack
Fairy? And no I get no snacks.
Question from: Milly from Australia
Question: Hi Colin. Would you ever consider taping long-form
improv (like in movie or short-film format) with the other Allstars?
What are your thoughts on long-form?
Milly
I’d be willing to do anything with the other All-stars. I enjoy
long form improv. It’s a little harder because keeping a narrative with
many improvisers going can be daunting.
Question from: brandon c.
Question: What is your favorite food?
Brandon
Turkey
Question from: Ellen from Originally Vancouver
Question: Hi Colin. I've been watching Whose Line forever it
seems. When I first saw it you reminded me of someone I
knew. Did you read to the court reporting class at Langara
College in the early '80s? Remember a bunch of girls that
hung around together, and we went to that bar on Knight Street
I think? Anyway, you used to call me "fish lips" because
the faster you read the more I puckered my lips? You were
so funny!! It's great to see you're doing so well. Take
care.
P.S. If you're not the "Colin" I was thinking
of, sorry to waste your time, but you're still SO funny.
Ellen
Yes that was me reading to the court reporters at Langara. I remember
you, how are your lips? I miss reading the transcripts of some of the most
boring court cases known to man. Ah memories.
Question from: Lee from Australia
Question: Hi Colin,
Which actor / actress that you have ever worked with made you
feel so excited to work with?
Lee
Working with Robin Williams and Sid Caesar on Whose Line was
very exciting for me. And I got to work with Paul Giamatti in
my cut scene from Man in The Moon. He was great.
Question from: Matt from Fort Collins Colorado
Question: hi Colin your are one talented and gifted actor and
i catch whose line every day!!! My question is ive noticed
that you useally get stuck on the game 'If you know what i mean" why?
Matt
I get stuck in that game because unlike Brad and Ryan my mind doesn’t
immediately go to the profane and innuendo. Brad especially seems like he plays
IYKWIM in his real life.
Question from: Renee from Indiana
Question: What has been your favorite place to perform the live
show with Brad? What places would you like to go back to?
Renee
We always have a great time in Des Moines and Milwaukee, mainly because
the audiences openly adore us. We go back to any place that loves us.
Question from: Haejin in Seoul, South Korea
Question: Hi Colin!
Who comes up with the suggestions on the papers on Whose Line?
Are there separate writers to do that? If so, do they observe you
and create situations that best suit your strengths, or do they
try to give you a challenge? Do you sometimes go to them after the
show and complain? (like making you kiss your co-performers?)
Haejin
Some suggestions are supplied by audience members from sheets
that they fill out before the show. The set ups come from writers
on the show. We always tried to make them challenge us but they
tended to go with our strengths.
Question from: Katie from Gaylord, MI
Question: Mr. Mochrie:
Anybody reading this will surely know your amazing talent for improv,
therefore I'll avoid all that complimentary bull. I saw your show in Waukegon,
Illinois and I was inspired to ask you a question. Do you ever get annoyed,
or tired of people calling-out outrageous and entirely pointless comments during
the show? I know participation is necessary...but people seem a little too
eccentric at times.
Katie
We always tread a fine line with improv show. We set up that the audience
has to shout out things so that we can get suggestions but we can’t have
total anarchy. Suggestions are fine but random comments during a scene
is tiresome.
Question from: Katie from Walla Walla, WA (seriously)
Question: I read that you were valedictorian of your high school.
Did you have to give a speech, and if so, what was it about? Was
it a piece of cake, or intimidating?
Katie
I gave a speech at the graduation ceremony describing our years at school,
the memories, the highs the lows etc. It was the first time I realized how
much I hate writing.
Question from: samantha from Winnipeg
Question: I am a HUGE HUGE fan of you (and Ryan! unfortunatly
when you came to town last year with some of your WL castmates
I missed my chance because of some age limit) this is a real
long shot but will you and Debra be doing any more seasons of "Getting
Along Famously"? if so will any more of your WL costars ever
guest star (I saw the episodes with Greenwood and Brady and
they were funny!)?
Samantha
Unfortunately we were cancelled but we are working on finding another
project to work on together.
